What's Happening at The Retreat House in March

We know that March is a busy month with spring break and travel, but keep us in mind as you make your plans. Our cozy cabin is a great way to rest and recharge this spring.

Our March focus is the practice of surrender.

Surrender is a posture of opening our hands, our hearts, and our plans to God’s presence and will. We tend to grip and cling in order to feel safe and in order to feel a sense of control. Surrender is the path of entrusting ourselves and our lives and those we love to the care and goodness of God. This is both challenging and freeing.  In the silence you will have time to reflect on God’s personal invitations of surrender in your life.

Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

Jeremiah 18:6

Our first retreat offering will be a half day silent retreat on Friday, March 8th from 9:30-1:30. If you are headed into spring break, this is an opportunity to soak up some silence and stillness before a week of togetherness. Sign up for this retreat here.

Our second retreat will be a self-guided retreat on Good Friday, March 29th. The focus of this time will be to walk the Stations of the Cross. This is an ancient practice that invites you to prayerfully reflect on Jesus’ mysterious gift of himself in love. It is a chance to look with “eyes of the heart” at the violent rejection of love that Jesus endured.

Jesus completely entered into our human experience even unto death. He knows and joins us in our sufferings, and we can befriend him in his during Good Friday. Stations of the Cross is a powerful, contemplative practice, and we want to make it available to anyone who would like the chance to make this walk. We are, therefore, going to open The Retreat House from 9:30-6:00 on March 29th, so that you can come anytime that is convenient for you. Plan at least one hour of time for this, but you may certainly stay as long as you like. We encourage you to let the Holy Spirit direct your heart. As you walk the stations, one particular prompt might draw your attention and invite you to linger there.  You can register for this retreat here.

If you have questions about this practice, please reach out, as we know it may be unfamiliar to some. There are 14 stops along the path, each one inviting you to pause and contemplate Jesus’ journey from being condemned to die, all the way to being buried.

Our open hours for March will be Monday, March 11th, and Monday, March 18th from 10-2. Please feel free to stop by and enjoy the grounds and some time of quiet. We hope to see you soon!

We are also in the midst of inviting folks into the joy of what is going on at The Retreat House by becoming a TRH Move Member.
